Division Age Levels & Descriptions

6U/T-Ball

Ages 4-6, usually the player’s first experience with softball. Leicester Girls Softball’s 6U/T-Ball division experience is grounded in fun, fitness, and fundamentals. The basics of the game are taught, focusing on the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, and running. Hitting is done from a tee and using softie balls. The games are played with an emphasis on learning and development to prepare players for the 8U level of play.

The girls will be taught the value of team play as well as the importance of sportsmanship. Leicester Girls softball is an opportunity for girls to develop new friendships while having fun playing and learning the game of softball.  We do not offer indoor practice for our youngest players. We have an end of season party outside on our field at the end of June for all players and divisions.

Our 6U/T-Ball division offers helmets, bats, fielding gloves (Left & Right) all you need to do is show up!

  8U

Ages 7-8, with some 6-year-olds who have completed at least 1 year of 6U/T-Ball. The focus of this 8U instructional division is to learn the skills needed to play softball and to develop each player's skill level. 8U softball introduces competitive play, while still maintaining a strong focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game. Coach pitch and Kid-pitch are introduced at this level, with special rules. 

The girls will be taught the value of team play as well as the importance of sportsmanship. Leicester Girls softball is an opportunity for girls to develop new friendships while having fun playing and learning the game of softball. We hold weekly optional indoor practices from January through March, free for all registered players from our 8U division up. We have an end of season party outside on our field at the end of June for all players and divisions. We will also be offering 3 low-cost indoor Pitching/Catching Clinics ahead of our Spring Season for divisions 8U and up.

10U

Ages 9-10, The 10U level of softball is the first level of full kid-pitch. While the focus remains on fundamentals and development, more advanced rules are introduced, such as base-stealing and bunting.

The girls will be taught the value of team play as well as the importance of sportsmanship. Leicester Girls softball is an opportunity for girls to develop new friendships while having fun playing and learning the game of softball.  We hold weekly optional indoor practices from January through March, free for all registered players from our 8U division up. We have an end of season party outside on our field at the end of June for all players and divisions. We will also be offering 3 low-cost indoor Pitching/Catching Clinics ahead of our Spring Season for divisions 8U and up.

12U

Ages 11-12, The 12U level continues to advance the complexity of play, introducing rules such as the dropped third strike, stealing home, and the infield fly rule. At this level the players play with the full-sized 12" softball, and pitch from a greater distance from the plate. Fundamentals are reinforced, and more advanced styles of play are taught.

The girls will be taught the value of team play as well as the importance of sportsmanship. 14U

Ages 13-14, The 14U level continues to advance the complexity of play and rules now stay same from this age forward. At this level the players play with the full-sized 12" softball, and pitch from a greater distance from the plate. Fundamentals are reinforced, and more advanced styles of play are taught.
